Tech Coach Travels: Virtual Field Trips

As we put a wrap on this year, our last installment of Tech Coach Travels features teachers that are taking their kids on a type of field trip that doesn't need a permission slip… VIRTUAL field trips! If you are looking for a fun, interactive way to bring your end of the year teaching to life, here are some tips from HTPS colleagues.

Heather Cohen and Vanessa Silverman (ARS) used Google Maps/Google Voyager this year to take their students on a world wide voyage to learn how Christmas is celebrated in various spanish-speaking countries around the world.

Elizabeth Zsenak (HHS) packed up her virtual bus and used Nearpod Virtual Field Trips to tour the Acropolis and Colosseum, Taj Mahal, Egyptian pyramids of Giza and even the Great Wall of China!

Brienna Woeller (ARS) brought birds of prey to her students through a virtual connection with the Raptor Trust. Students learned about owl adaptations and met an owl named Penny! They also how they can help injured birds/owls at the Raptor Trust.

Cecilia Parry (HMS) took her 7th grade Spanish students on a Nearpod Virtual Field Trip to her native Peru. The students were able to visit Machu Picchu in Cuzco Peru, the Old City Gate of Machu Picchu situated on a mountain ridge northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows, and the Nasca Lines located in the Peruvian coastal plain in Peru.

About once a unit, Megan Jefoplous (HMS) tries to use a virtual field trip in order to allow her students to see a geographic feature or cultural site up close. This year, she’s taken her students to the Coliseum in Rome, The Great Wall of China, and the rivers of Mesopotamia using Nearpod Virtual Field Trips. Also, using the website AirPano, Megan’s students have visited modern-day Delhi and Athens.
