If you’ve never given Flippity a go, it’s worth taking the plunge with a Flippity Virtual Breakout Room. Flippity.net is a free tool that turns any Google Sheet into a quiz show, word search, flashcards and more. It’s also a great productivity tool for teachers with random name selector and certificate maker.
Flippity Virtual Breakout Rooms is a digital escape room where you customize questions for students to answer. Students simply click on a lock to answer a corresponding question. If they answer correctly, they move on to the next lock! There is even a hint feature that teachers can set up if needed.

Ready to make one of your own? Here’s how to create a Flippity Virtual Breakout Room (or any Flippity activity):
Step One: Modify the Spreadsheet Template
- Go to Flippity.net: Virtual Breakout, and click Make a Copy of this Template.
- On the Google Sheet, change the information in the clue, hint and answer columns (hints are optional). ***Do not modify any blue cells!***
Step Two: Publish Your Spreadsheet
- Go to File, Share, Publish to web, then click Publish.
- In the new window, click OK and close the Publish to Web window. Do not copy the link that is shown.
Step Three: Get Your Flippity.net Link
- Click on the Get the Link Here tab of the template (at the bottom)
- Then click on the Flippity.net link to view your virtual breakout note: you may need to wait a few minutes for the activity link to be ready)
- Share the link with your students.
