Excuse Assignments in Google Classroom

Looking for more flexibility when grading assignments in Google Classroom? Google is rolling out a new  “excuse” feature for Classroom assignments. It’s easy to use: just select the assignment for a specific student, and mark it as “Excused.” Now you can distinguish between a missing assignment and one that you are either not having the student complete or are letting that grade not count.

When a student is absent from school due to an illness or family trip, you may need to pare down the assignments that they are expected to complete. Now you have the ability to accommodate student absences without penalizing Classroom grades. Another situation where it is useful is if you are looking to drop the lowest performing assignment from their overall class grade. This gives you the ability to accommodate a student who is struggling with a specific topic. Overall, there are many instances where this feature gives a little more clarity to an assignment that ends up as ungraded.

In just a few days, you will be “excused” from your educator duties.  The Tech Team wishes you a healthy and restful winter break. See you in 2024!
