Select-to-Speak (An Awesome Accessibility Feature for All Students)

Did you know that all student Chromebooks have a built in feature to read aloud text on the screen?

Select-to-speak is an Accessibility feature that can help ALL students, not just those with documented learning disabilities. Chromebooks now have enhanced, natural-sounding voice options for Select-to-speak, which lets students hear selected text on your screen spoken out loud. There’s new features like controls to speed up, slow down or pause the reading voice, and to easily jump to different parts of text. Plus, you can choose to highlight the words being spoken while shading background text to help focus your attention (not shown here).

All teachers should be familiar with the Accessibility features on a student Chromebook. To learn about this one and others your students could be using, reach out to your building’s Tech Coach!
